George Harrison Left The Beatles In 1970

In a 1970 interview, Paul McCartney announced that The Beatles were over. He startled George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr.

The announcement of their break-up was made after years of tension, jealousy, and in-fighting between the iconic rock band members. Their rise to superstardom in 1962 soon became the beginning of the end for The Beatles, reports Smooth Radio.

After years of touring the world and playing for their fans, the band members needed a break in 1966. George, Ringo, and John convinced the "workaholic" Paul that the band should take a vacation and they should not perform live.

The band went their separate ways for three months after the decision. They recorded their last album, Abbey Road, in July 1969. There still was tension and squabbles amongst the musicians, but they managed to create beautiful music.

Lennon was shot and killed outside his New York home on December 8, 1980, and George passed away in 2001 due to lung cancer. After two of their members passed away, The Beatles split up forever.
