Her mother, Susan is a former actress and an English teacher. Her father Harry is a math teacher of Polish descent. She got raised as a catholic along with her three other siblings. She has two sisters, Danna and Annie as well as a brother Andrew Hyra. Her brother is a musician and is a member of the band Billy Pilgrim.
She graduated from Bethel High School and later studied undergraduate in journalism first at the University of Connecticut and then later at New York University.
