The career of Bob Barker

Bob, a multifaceted actor from Washington, began his career as a logger.

He got a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury College (university) in 1947 after training as a US Navy fighter pilot during WWII.

During World War II, he dropped out of college to join the United States Navy as a fighter pilot, but unfortunately, the war ended before he could join a seagoing squadron.

After the war, he returned to college and received a bachelor's degree in economics.

While in college, Barker got the opportunity to work at Springfield's KTTS-FM radio station.

And then Bob decided to pursue a career in radio after graduating from university and worked overnight at the station California.

He moved to California in 1950 to pursue a career in broadcasting. The Bob Barker Show was his radio show which aired for six years in Burbank. 

In 1956, Bob Barker moved from radio to television, anchoring "Truth or Consequences" till 1974.

As we know the prodigies display talent from an early age, likewise, Bob was picked to anchor an NBC pilot named “Simon Says” in 1971, while still presenting “Truth or Consequences.”

CBS was interested in Mark Goodson and Bill Todman's plan to resurrect "The Price Is Right" in early 1972. But the network wanted Barker to host the show because of his talent. 

He then hosted "The Price Is Right" for 34 years which was the longest tevelivison show in history.

Who Is Bob Barker's first wife?

During the training for world war II, Bob met Betty White while she was working with the American Women's Voluntary Services.

During training, the couple supposedly met at a dance and fell in love with each other.

In 1945, the couple tied a knot and moved to Ohio together. However, only six months after their wedding, they decided to split up due to some circumstances.

Did Bob Marker Marry Again?

Bob was alone after he had separated from Betty White. Despite being alone, he continued to work.

According to Closer Weekly, Barker and Gideon met at an Ella Fitzgerald concert in the mid-1930s and they fell madly in love with each other.

After dating for several years, they married in 1945. According to the news, Bob was dating Gideon while he was married to Betty White. 

Bob Barker and Dorothy Jo Gideon, his late wife, were married for 36 years. Dorothy died six months after being diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 57.

In a 2007 interview with Esquire, the former 'Price Is Right star" said, "We didn’t have time for children. I don’t regret it, not when so many of my friends are having so much trouble with their children.” and also added, “I have thirteen ducks, and that’s a lot of work.”

He's had a partially blocked left carotid artery, a stroke, prostate surgery, skin cancer, and stitches, head, and knee injuries as a result of falls at his home. 

He had a particularly difficult year in 2018 when he was admitted to the hospital twice for severe back pain near the end of the year.

While he was still working, he had a few bouts with skin cancer, which he admits was caused by spending too much time in the sun.

Bob in an interview said, “It never entered my mind I would do anything longer,” also added, “It never entered my mind I would even live longer.”

Bob has had several health concerns throughout the years, so it's astonishing that he's still doing so well in 2021 at the age of 97.
